Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: duffel n., coat n.
Etymology: < duffel n. + coat n. In β. forms probably remodelled after Dutch duffelse rok overcoat made of duffel (1684: see duffel n.) or duffelse jas, in the same sense (19th cent.).
A warm coat made of duffel or similar thick cloth; (in later use chiefly) spec. a short coat with a hood, fastened at the front with toggles.
