单词 | ferrimagnetism |
释义 | ferrimagnetismn. Physics. A type of magnetism which is macroscopically similar to ordinary ferromagnetism (although typically weaker), but differs from it on the atomic scale. Cf. ferromagnetism n.Ferrimagnetism arises from the antiparallel alignment of neighbouring magnetic dipoles, with unequal quantities or magnitudes of individual dipoles in each direction. Overall, this gives rise to a finite resultant magnetic moment. Ferrimagnetism is related to antiferromagnetism, but in the latter case antiparallel dipoles cancel out and there is no resultant magnetic moment.
