Etymology: modern Latin, < Latin falc(i)- , falx sickle + -parum (see -parous comb. form).
Pathology.
The specific epithet of a protozoon of the genus Plasmodium, used attributively, to designate a severe type of malaria caused by this protozoon, in which paroxysms recur at approximately two-day intervals. Also called æstivoautumnal, malignant, and subtertian malaria.
