Etymology: < classical Latin psēphisma and its etymon ancient Greek ψήϕισμα decree enacted by a vote of a public assembly < ψηϕίζειν to vote, originally with pebbles ( < ψῆϕος pebble (see psepho- comb. form) + -ίζειν -ize suffix) + -μα (see -oma comb. form).
