An Italian order of chivalry, founded by Amadeus VI, Count of Savoy in 1362.The order was originally titled the Order of the Collar of Savoy, but was renamed the (Supreme) Order of the Most Holy Annunciation (Ordine (Supremo) della Santissima Annunziata) by Charles III in 1518. After the unification of Italy under the House of Savoy in 1859, the order served as the pinnacle of the honours system of the new country until Italy became a republic in 1946. Subsequently, the order has been maintained by the House of Savoy as a dynastic order.
