Etymology: < classical Latin ēversus, past participle of ēvertere evert v. In sense 2 after German evers (B. Hanström 1937, in Kungliga Svenska Vetenskapsakademiens Handlingar 16 No. 3). Compare earlier everted adj. Compare also earlier everse v.
1. everse proportion n. Obsolete rare the principle that, given quantities A, B, C, and D, the proportionality of A to AB is the same as that of C to CD whenever that of A to B is the same as that of C to D; = eversion of proportion at eversion n. 3. [After post-classical Latin eversa proportionalitas (1509 in the passage translated in quot. 1570); compare post-classical Latin eversa proportio (1509 or earlier); both after ancient Greek ἀναστροϕὴ λόγου conversion of a ratio (Euclid).]
