Etymology: < enter- (in enteron n.) + -al suffix1, after German enteral (1891 in the passage translated in quot. 1905, or earlier).
Chiefly Medicine.
Of or relating to the digestive tract, esp. the intestines (= enteric adj.); spec. designating absorption or administration of a drug, nutrient, etc., by way of the digestive tract, and substances administered in this way (contrasted with parenteral adj.).
