Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin discinctura.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin discinctura (1610 or earlier; < classical Latin discinct- , past participial stem of discingere to remove the belt or girdle from (see discinct adj.) + -ūra -ure suffix1), with remodelling of the ending after -ure suffix1.
rare (chiefly historical).
The action or fact of loosening or removing a belt.In quot. 1610 with reference to the degradation of a knight (cf. degradation n.1 1).
