Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin disciformis.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin and scientific Latin disciformis (9th cent. in a British source; apparently rare before 18th cent.; 1750 or earlier in botanical use) < disci- , combining form of classical Latin discus disc n. + -formis -form comb. form2. Compare French disciforme (1685 or earlier in astronomy; 1835 or earlier in botanical use), Italian disciforme (a1818 or earlier in botanical use).
1. Having the form of a disc; disc-shaped, discoidal; (Medicine) characterized by lesions of this form.
