Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: antho- comb. form, -carpous comb. form.
Etymology: < antho- comb. form + -carpous comb. form, after scientific Latin Anthocarpi (plural), denoting a class of fruits ( J. Lindley Introd. Bot. (1832) i. xiii. 174).
Botany. Now rare.
Of a fruit: formed from more than one flower, and incorporating floral parts outside the ovary. Also: having such fruits.
