Etymology: < post-classical Latin diallelon (1550 or earlier) < ancient Greek δι' ἀλλήλων through or by means of one another (in δι' ἀλλήλων δεῖξις reciprocal proof (Aristotle)) < διά through (see dia- prefix¹) + ἀλλήλων one another, reduplicated formation < ἄλλος other (see allo- comb. form).
