单词 dictum de omni et nullo
释义

dictum de omni et nullon.

Brit. /ˈdɪktəm deɪ ˈɒmnɪ ɛt ˈnʊləʊ/, U.S. /ˈdɪktəm deɪ ˈɑmni ɛt ˈnʊloʊ/
Forms: 1600s 1800s dictum de omni et de nullo, 1700s– dictum de omni et nullo.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin dictum de omni et nullo.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin dictum de omni et nullo, i.e. ‘dictum concerning every and none’ (1637 or earlier) < classical Latin dictum dictum n. + de de prep. + omni , ablative neuter of omnis all, every (see omni- comb. form) + et and + nūllō , ablative neuter of nūllus no (see null adj.).Not fully naturalized in English. Post-classical Latin dictum de omni et nullo is probably < dictum de omni..dictum de nullo, c1500 in J. Burana's Latin translation of the commentary of Averroes on Aristotle, Prior Analytics 24b26-30 (printed in Aristotle Opera (1562) I. 2-3, in the second sequence of pagination), itself echoing Boethius' translation of this passage, Dicimus autem de omni praedicari quando nihil est sumere subiecti de quo alterum non dicatur; et de nullo similiter ‘And we say that one term is predicated of all of another, whenever no instance of the subject can be found of which the other term cannot be asserted; and similarly to be predicated of none’ ( Aristoteles latinus III. (1962) 6); the normal form in scholastic authors was dici de omni et de nullo (13th cent. in Albertus Magnus; 14th cent. in British sources). The original Greek is λέγομεν δὲ τὸ κατὰ παντὸς κατηγορεῖσθαι ὅταν μηδὲν ᾖ λαβεῖν [τοῦ ὑποκειμένου] καθ' οὗ θάτερον οὐ λεχθήσεται: καὶ τὸ κατὰ μηδενὸς ὡσαύτως; for the extent to which the sense of the Latin phrase corresponds with Aristotle's thought here, see H. W. B. Joseph Introduction to Logic, (ed. 2, 1925) 296-300.
