Etymology: An early variant of debauched adj., representing the pronunciation of French débauché; connected with the main form by debaushed, debausht.
Debauched (in later use frequently with somewhat vaguer sense). Obsolete in English before the middle of 17th cent.; retained longer in Scots; revived by Scott, and now frequent in literary English.
