Etymology: < Latin decorāt-, participial stem of decorāre to adorn, beautify, < decus , decor- grace, honour, embellishment. As in other verbs of similar formation, the Latin past participle was first adapted as a participial adjective (see decorate adj.), and subsequently the same type was taken as the stem of a verb.
