Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin crycoides.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin crycoides (1605 or earlier) < Hellenistic Greek κρικοειδής ring-shaped < ancient Greek κρίκος ring ( < the same Indo-European base as ancient Greek κυρτός bulging, convex (see kurtosis n.) and classical Latin curvus curve adj.) + -ειδής -oid suffix. Compare French cricoïde, adjective (a1650).
