Origin: Apparently a borrowing from French. Probably also partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: French alienour ; alien v., -or suffix.
Etymology: Apparently originally < Anglo-Norman alienour person who transfers ownership of property (c1292 or earlier; compare Middle French alieneur (1341)) < aliener alien v. + -our -our suffix; in later use probably also < alien v. + -or suffix. Compare alienee n. Compare earlier alien v. 3 and alienation n. 3.
Law. Now chiefly historical.
A person who transfers the ownership of property to another. Cf. alienator n.
