Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Albers.
Etymology: < the name of Heinrich C. Albers (1773–1833), German cartographer, who devised the projection in 1805. Compare French projection d'Albers (1810 in the passage translated in quot. 1822), German Albers'sche Projektion (1809 or earlier as †Alber'sche Projection, 1819 or earlier as †Albers'sche Projection).
In the genitive, esp. in Albers projection. Designating a modified form of conical map projection based on two standard parallels of latitude, such that the relative size of different areas is correctly represented but shapes are distorted.
