Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: communist n., -ic suffix, commune n.1, -istic suffix.
Etymology: In sense 1 < communist n. + -ic suffix, after German kommunistisch of or relating to communism (1841), of or relating to the political doctrine or movement described by Marx and Engels (a1848). In senses 2 and 3 < commune n.1 + -istic suffix.With sense 1 compare slightly later communistical adj.
