Origin: A variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: English Chiron.
Etymology: Alteration of the earlier proprietary name Chiron, of unknown (perhaps arbitrary) origin. The name of the company producing these products (formerly Systems Resources Corporation) was also changed to incorporate the name Chyron.
Broadcasting.
A proprietary name for: an electronic system for generating captions on video images; frequently attributive. Also: an electronically generated caption superimposed on video images, typically providing explanatory content.
