Origin: A borrowing from Hindi. Etymon: Hindi cūṛīdār.

Etymology: < Hindi cūṛīdār, use as noun of cūṛīdār (of fabric) gathered, falling in folds < cūṛī bangle, ring ( < Sanskrit cūḍā armband, of unknown origin) + -dār, suffix forming adjectives ( < Persian -dār-dar suffix), probably so called because the gathered fabric was originally held with bands.

In singular and (in recent use) plural. Tight trousers made with excess material at the bottom of the legs which falls in folds around the ankles, traditionally worn by people from South Asia.
