Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: chaff n.1, -ed suffix1, -ed suffix2.
Etymology: Partly < chaff n.1 + -ed suffix1, and partly < chaff n.1 + -ed suffix2. Compare later chaff v.1
1. Scottish. Probably: (of grain) separated from the husk. Obsolete. rare.
