单词 akimed
释义

akimedadj.

Forms: early Middle English ikimet, early Middle English akimed.
Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: English *gecȳmed, *cȳman.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Perhaps the reflex of an unattested Old English *gecȳmed, past participle of *cȳman to bewilder, confuse, stupefy (see kimet adj. and discussion at that entry). Compare earlier bekimed adj. and later kime n.With form akimed compare a- prefix2. The attested Middle English forms, with stem vowel i instead of u (the usual western reflex of Old English ), are presumably the result of sporadic unrounding of Old English in the environment of a preceding (palatalized) k and a following nasal plus front vowel in a closed syllable, a feature of the so-called ‘AB language’ of the south-west midlands (compare A. F. Colborn Hali Meiðhad (1940) 68–9, H. M. Logan Dial. Life St. Katherine (1973) 78–9).
Obsolete.
Confounded, bewildered; dumbfounded.
