The action or process of quickening, hastening, or causing to happen more speedily. (Now mostly gerundial.) Also attrib., as accelerating chamber, accelerating field, accelerating tube (see accelerate v. 1 c).

Quickening, hastening, or tending to quicken or hasten. accelerating force: a force that produces continually increased motion.
