staticisor Computers.|ˈstætɪsaɪzə(r)| [f. static a. + -ise1 + -or.] A device which converts a succession of bits into an array of simultaneous states, thereby storing them.
1949Williams & Kilburn in Proc. Inst. Electr. Engineers XCVI. iii. 82 Information may be represented ‘dynamically’ by pulses, which only exist transiently, or ‘statically’ by d.c. coupled flip-flop circuits, which retain the information until purposely reset to a standard condition... The set of flip-flop circuits is called a ‘staticisor’. 1956Electronic Engin. XXVIII. 154/2 The diodes in one horizontal row store the binary digits of the same significance in each of the words, and all have access to the trigger V2 in the input-output staticizor. 1960Haley & Scott Analogue & Digital Computers vii. 191 The digits are transient and must therefore be stored or converted into a static form by setting a row of five staticisors. So ˈstaticize v. trans., to store by means of a staticisor.
1952Electronic Engin. XXIV. 30/1 In almost every design, a modest number of electronic triggers is retained since they allow words to be set up (‘staticized’) or discharged (‘dynamicized’) at different rates. 1960Haley & Scott Analogue & Digital Computers vii. 193 Once the function digits have been ‘staticised’ there comes the problem of decoding. |
