ˈsheep-tick, † sheep's tick [See tick n.1 and cf. WFris. skieppetyk, G. schafzeecke, schafstieke.] A horny, bristly, wingless fly, Melophagus ovinus, which infests sheep, embedding its head in the skin and extracting the blood. Also = sheep-louse.
