breakbeat, n. Brit. |ˈbreɪkbiːt|, U.S. |ˈbreɪkˌbit| [‹ break n.1 + beat n.1] 1. orig. U.S. A sample of a drum break, esp. a funky or syncopated one, usually repeated to form a rhythm track; (also) a similar beat programmed on a drum machine, etc., rather than sampled.
