macrocarpa|ˌmækrəˈkɑːpə| [mod.L., specific epithet of Cupressus macrocarpa (T. Hartweg 1847, in Jrnl. Hort. Soc. II. 187), f. Gr. µακρό-ς large + καρπός fruit.] An evergreen tree, Cupressus macrocarpa, native to the Monterey peninsula of California and widely cultivated elsewhere, esp. as a fast-growing hedge or wind-break; = Monterey cypress.
