1500–20Dunbar Poems lxxxv. 67 [To our Lady] Oratrice, mediatrice, salvatrice. 2. Old name for one of the coats (tunicæ) of the eye; in full tunicle salvatrice (= L. tunica salvatrix).
1590P. Barrough Meth. Physic i. xxx. (1596) 50 Some..imagin but only two coates, the one whereof they tearme Saluatrix, because it saueth and keepeth the humors.
