Réaumur|reomyr| [See def.] The name of a French physicist, René-Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur (1683–1757): a. used ellipt. to denote the thermometer or thermometric scale introduced by him about 1730, in which the freezing point of water is 0° and the boiling point 80°. In English works the accent on the e is usually omitted.
