roscherite Min.|ˈrɒʃəraɪt| [ad. G. roscherit (F. Slavík 1914, in Bull. internat. de l'Acad. tchèque des Sciences, Prague XIX. 109), f. the name of Walter Roscher (fl. 1914), German apothecary and mineral collector: see -ite1.] A hydrated basic phosphate of beryllium, calcium, iron, and manganese, (Ca,Mn,Fe)3Be3(PO4)3(OH)3.2H2O, sometimes also containing magnesium, found as yellowish-green to brown crystals in granite and pegmatite. The presence of beryllium in roscherite was not discovered until 1958, the mineral previously having been believed to contain aluminium.
