Aristotelean, Aristotelian, a. and n.|ˌærɪstɒtɪˈliːən, ˌærɪstəʊˈtiːlɪən| [The former is f. L. Aristotelē-us, Gr. ἀριστοτέλει-ος + -an; the latter, f. L. Aristotelēs, Gr. ἀριστοτέλης + -ian (cf. Christian), is more common.] A. adj. Of or pertaining to Aristotle, the famous Greek philosopher, or to his system. B. n. One who follows, or is skilled in, the philosophy of Aristotle. Hence Aristoˈtelianism, the philosophic system or any doctrine of Aristotle. Similarly: Aristotelic |ˌærɪstəʊˈtɛlɪk|, a. [Gr. ἀριστοτελικ-ός] and † Aristoˈtelical a. = Aristotelian. Ariˈstotelism and † Aristoˈtelity (rare—1) = Aristotelianism. Ariˈstotelize v., to lean towards or teach the system of Aristotle.
