[Of uncertain origin. In early use (shlemozzle, etc.) apparently East End slang: perh. ad. Yiddish shlimazl misfortune, unlucky person (see schlimazel), with subsequent reduction of schle- to sche-.]
A muddle or complication; a quarrel, row, rumpus, mêlée.
