1. a. Occupied; held as property; taken possession of, seized, assumed; see possess 1–3. rare.

b. Kept under control, kept calm or steady, composed. rare—0. (Implied in possessedness: see below. Cf. possess 4 and self-possessed.)
2. a. Inhabited and controlled by a demon or spirit; demoniac, lunatic, mad, crazy.
