phlogopite Min.|ˈflɒgəpaɪt| [Named 1841 (in Ger. Phlogopit), f. Gr. ϕλογωπός fiery (f. ϕλογ- flame + ὤψ, ὠπ- face, look) + -ite1.] A magnesia mica, found in crystalline limestone and serpentine, usually of a brownish-yellow or brownish-red colour, with pearly, often submetallic (coppery) lustre.
