‖ ouabaio better wabaio.|wæˈbaɪəʊ| The Somāli name (Larajasse Somali Dict., waˈbayo) of the plant Acocanthera Schimperi, the juice of which is used to poison arrows. Hence ouabaïn, better wabaïn |wæˈbɑɪɪn|, the glucoside, C31H48O12, obtained from this plant, in action and composition closely resembling strophanthin. (The spelling oua- for wa- is due to the French discoverer.)
