‖ Ophrys Bot.|ˈɒfrɪs| [a. Gr. ὀϕρύς eyebrow; a. L. ophrys (Pliny) some bifoliate plant, adopted by Linnæus 1737 as a generic name.] A genus of terrestrial Orchidaceæ, containing the Bee-, Fly-, and Spider-orchis. Also popularly extended to allied genera, as Neottia or Spiranthes (Ladies'-tresses).
