oomycete, n. Biol.|ˌəʊəˈmaɪsiːt| Also Oo-. [Anglicized sing. of mod.L. Oomycetes, f. Gr. ᾠό-ν egg + mycetes n. pl.] A fungus belonging to the class Oomycetes of mainly aquatic saprobic and parasitic fungi, characterized by having a zoospore with two flagella. Usu. attrib.
