nootropic, a. and n. Pharm.|nəʊəˈtrɒpɪk| [f. F. nootrope (C. Giurgea 1972, in Actualités Pharmacologiques XXV. 150), f. Gr. νόο-ς mind + τροπ-ή turning: see -ic 1.] A. adj. Designating or characteristic of a group of drugs considered to improve cognitive functioning, esp. to enhance memory, and used to treat some cases of dementia.
