From the root skraŋk- oblique, awry, are also MLG. schrank neut., barrier, hedge, OHG., MHG. schranc masc., bar, barrier, limit, enclosed space, deception, also MHG. schranke fem., G. schrank, schranke; MLG. schranken to shamble, stutter, MDu. schranken to sit cross-legged, waver, totter, OHG. scranchôn, MHG. schranken to be crossed, waver, stagger.] trans. To put a stumbling-block in the way of; to overthrow; to entrap; to deceive.
