The name given to a political movement that arose in response to the challenge of the New Left, characterized by rejection of all forms of socialism, emphasis on traditional, conservative values with regard to the law, morality, and social consciousness, or (esp. in the U.S.) by libertarian, esp. free-market policies, and a desire to improve the public image of conservatism; the supporters of this movement.
