1911Stedman Med. Dict. 584/1 Neuronophagia, neuronophagy. 1932M. Bielschowsky in W. Penfield Cytol. & Cellular Path. Nervous Syst. I. iv. 153 The neuroglia cells not only multiply, but some of them invade the marginal hollows and vacuoles. This process is included under the rather ill-chosen name of neuronophagia. 1958J. G. Greenfield et al. Neuropath. ii. 62 Neuronophagy is specially common in all forms of encephalomyelitis which affect the grey matter. 1974Passmore & Robson Compan. Med. Stud. III. xxxiv. 128/2 The occurrence of perivascular lymphocytic cuffing may distract attention from the more subtle isolated neuronal necrosis, each dead cell being surrounded by a ring of satellite phagocytes (neuronophagia). |
