misbeˈholden, ppl. a. Also dial. -behodden, Sc. -behad(d)en. [f. mis-1 2 + beholden, pa. pple. of behold v. The orig. meaning seems to have been ‘improperly guarded, unguarded’; cf. OE. behealden cautious.] Unbecoming, indiscreet; disobliging: usually qualifying word.
