† melanˈcholian, a. and n. Obs. Also 4 malen-, malancolien, melanconien. [f. melancholy + -an.] a. adj. Having the atrabilious temperament; also, addicted to ‘melancholy’ or causeless anger. b. n. One suffering from melancholia. Also, one of an atrabilious temperament.
