▪ I. Martini1|mɑːˈtiːniː| In full, Martini–Henry (rifle). A rifle used in the British army from 1871 to 1891, combining a breech-mechanism invented by Friedrich von Martini with a ·45-calibre barrel devised by Benjamin Tyler Henry (see Henry1). So Martini–Henry carbine.
