mapau N.Z.|ˈmɑːpaʊ| Also mapou. [Maori.] A name for several New Zealand trees, esp. Myrsine (or Suttonia) australis, of the family Myrsinaceæ, an evergreen bearing clusters of white flowers and black berries. Cf. matipo.
