The name Malurus (Vieillot 1816) was app. intended to mean ‘soft-tailed (bird)’, repr. Gr. µάλουρος (Hesych.), f. µᾱλός (Theocr., once) variously conjectured to mean ‘white’, ‘shaggy’, or ‘soft’ + οὐρά tail.]
Belonging to the Malurinæ, a small group of birds (chiefly Australian) of which the typical genus is Malurus, the Superb Warbler.
