[f. Gr. ἀν priv. + οὐρ-ά tail + -ous. The reg. transliteration of the Gr. is anur-ous, but anour-ous is in common use.]
Tailless. Applied to Amphibia, like the frog and toad, and (less correctly) to brachyurous crustacea, like the crab.
