lupulone Chem.|ˈl(j)uːp(j)ʊləʊn| Also -on |-ɒn|. [ad. G. lupulon (W. Wöllmer 1916, in Ber. d. Deut. Chem. Ges. XLIX. 781), f. mod.L. lupulus, used either as the specific epithet of the hop, Humulus lupulus, or † as a name for the genus Humulus (cf. L. lupus hop): see -one.] A bitter, crystalline, cyclic ketone, C26H38O4, that is an important constituent of hops and has strong antibiotic activity.
