[Two words seem to have been confused: OE. hlynn str. fem., torrent (? related to hlynn masc., ‘clangor’, hlynnan, hlynian to resound), and Gaelic linne = Irish linn, earlier lind, Welsh llyn, Cornish lin, Breton lenn.]
