The name of a district centred on Honefoss north of Oslo in Norway used attrib. (after H. Shetelig Norske Aarsberetning (1909), 96–107) to designate a style of late Viking art, characterized by abundant use of plant motifs as ornament.
1924A. F. Major tr. J. Brøndsted's Early Eng. Ornament iii. 293 Shetelig has more recently dealt with these rune-stones; he christens them after the reddish sandstone, which is quarried at Ringerike in the south of Norway, the ‘Ringerike Group’ and their plant ornament the ‘Ringerike style’. 1936A.
